 1) Developing our Free Trade

E.P.P. believes in developing and extending existing Free Trade Relations with rest of the world. We should not be “tied to the apron strings of the EU”, which means having an EU Representative to negotiate on behalf of England and Great Britain! This is quite wrong!

We are a “Free-Trading, Island Nation”, and have been for over 1,000 years. We intend to continue in that way.

2) Leaving the EU

E.P.P. will, immediately upon election, begin negotiations for an amicable, fair and sensible, complete withdrawal from all EU controls. EU Bureaucracy will not rule us; we shall rule ourselves once more.

Contrary to popular rumour, there will be no loss of jobs, possibly even an increase in Employment, in the long term, as we develop more world-wide sales outlets, on our own terms. The EU buys more from us, than we buy from them, and they will not want to lose that trade, nor us the chance to purchase from them.

It will be an amicable divorce, maintaining all trading links, and with the agreement of all four countries in Great Britain – England, Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland.

3) The Problems of not Leaving the EU

Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland will be free to remain in the EU, if they wish, but many problems would arise, if that was their democratic wish. (Please refer to our Foreign Policy - No.10 for more details on this situation).

4) “Brakes off” after Leaving the EU

Once we are able to trade freely with the rest of the world, especially our old and close Commonwealth connections, we can develop and expand our ailing manufacturing industries, possibly in Commonwealth countries, with new products and ideas.

E.P.P. Government can help this situation, by awarding as many as possible indigenous Government Contracts for new Equipment, both Military and Civilian, to UK-based companies that are able to supply.

This is notwithstanding any existing partnerships already in existence, with other nations, i.e. the USA or Europe.

5) Research and Development

E.P.P. will aim to close the gap between Government and Private Partnerships over any new Research and Development Projects. These will be actively promoted and funded, either privately or by the Government, or jointly, for the benefit of our country and future wellbeing of everyone.

With this in mind, a new Government Science Department will be set up, purely to research new ideas and new products. This will be in conjunction with private industry, to avoid duplication costs. We once lead the world in innovation and ideas – we will do so again!

6) New Ideas and Entrepreneurs

All new ideas will be Licensed for production here, or for permission to produce abroad. No more giving good ideas away! (Jet Engine, Hovercraft, you name it!)

With the advent of the Internet, good ideas are now very easily “poached”, but E.P.P. will discuss this problem with all inventors and industry, to keep “home-grown” ideas at home!

7) Employers and Trade Unions

E.P.P. will foster good relations with both the Employers and the Trade Unions, but without ‘heavy-handed’ Government interference. The Entrepreneur will be encouraged at all levels.

Trade Unions, Government and Employers - we are all in this together and as an island trading nation, we are jointly up against two main stumbling blocks: 1) - Wages and the Cost of Producing our home-grown food, goods, and services and 2) - World Costs generally.

Remember, other parts of the world do not have our high standard of living, or levels of “safety-net” social security, and regulations for Health and Safety in our factories. Excellent though this is, it costs us dear! It puts our production costs through the roof in many instances. Fact!

8) Un-tapped Talent

However, the English and the British as a whole are good at many things. We can be flexible in our outlook and our approach to problems and we have a great talent for invention and mechanical design. E.P.P. believes there is a vast pool of un-tapped talent in England.

This currently dormant talent will be searched for, and encouraged.

9) The Mass Labour Market

One problem we do have is the mass labour market, which is all but finished in this country, particularly farming, the mines and ship building, with many of our former products now being made or produced abroad, at lower, base manufacturing costs. Other jobs have been completely taken over by computers - on production lines especially.

We should focus our efforts of regeneration in the high value engineering industries, Pharmaceuticals, Aerospace, and Electronics. These are the Industries to produce the wealth, on which to base a thriving service sector, not the Service Sector, which supplies mainly low-tech, low-paid work.

This leaves many willing people not only out of a job, but short of money as well. We won’t see you starve, but this situation is not only a drain on the State, but on the rest of the working population.

10) Programmes to Learn New Skills

Therefore, a new programme of “Re-Skilling” will be introduced, and all existing College and University Courses will be checked and expanded.

E.P.P. is looking to re-build our once great nation, in all areas and aspects of production, with better services. We are looking to the future for YOUR children, and your grandchildren.
