E.P.P. will abolish the BBC Licence Fee, and make it self-financing. This could be from advertising, or from commercially producing programmes for other networks, world-wide, or it could possibly have a small amount of Government financial assistance for Foreign Broadcasting.
The difficulty the BBC has, is maintaining its impartiality, and to report the news in an unbiased way.
Releasing the BBC from its political masters, and exposing it to the commercial realities of life, will help to restore its credibility, and also prevent it from being used as a Government mouthpiece.
E.P.P. will provide Financial Assistance for new, large, Combined Sports, Recreation and Entertainment Projects.
These will contain both Outdoor Sports and Playing Fields, for both Public and School use, on a rota system at any time of the day, plus a full range of Indoor Sporting Facilities, including Swimming Pools, Rifle Ranges and Courts for Badminton, Squash, Tennis, etc. They will be fully open for Public use, possibly for 24 hours a day, to maximise their use, and to meet the continual public demand for these popular activities.
Outdoor Centres which may receive financial assistance will include Saloon Car Racing, Motor Cycle events, Bowling Clubs and many others which foster a sense of community.
These new Complexes will include some Shops, and maybe a Petrol Station, or any other facilities for which there is a demand. Restaurants, with licences for healthy foods, will also be in each complex, and maybe a Cinema, and a Newsagent!
3) The Arts
E.P.P. will welcome and promote the idea of Sponsorship, with attendant appropriate advertising, for all Theatres, Art Galleries, Libraries, Cinemas, Church Halls, and all places of Entertainment, except Amusement Arcades,
To help finance the Arts, E.P.P. will encourage Donations from local Benefactors, local and national Private Industry, or the National Lottery. Not from local Councils, who would only put it on the Council Tax Bill.
All Private Donations will be Tax Allowable.
4) The Lottery
For small, local projects, and charities, a simplified Application Form will be available.
On Lottery Tickets, “Preference Boxes” will be shown, for purchasers to choose and mark their preferred project or charity, current at that time.
Children, of all ages, will be encouraged to get involved from an early age, with any of the above cultural activities. Many are then inspired to go on to a full and rewarding employment, in these areas, giving benefits to both them and us, individually and also as a nation.
Many of our famous Actors, Writers, Artists and Musicians were inspired by a School Trip to a Concert or Theatre, when very young.
A modern Society today, more than ever before, needs a Cultural Education Programme. This will be via Schools for children, and the Television, Radio and Newspapers, for adults.
E.P.P. will put in place the facilities to “raise standards” in this country. There has been a downward spiral of the nation’s morality, and it has been allowed to continue unabated. Cultural and Moral Benchmarks must first be set, then raised, year on year.
The media generally, newspapers, radio and television, all shape the way a nation thinks and behaves.
All these media areas have vast “room for improvement”! The standard of plays, adverts and sit-coms has dropped dramatically in the past 20 years. This decline should be halted and reversed.
Government intervention in the Media is not planned, by E.P.P., as it is not always welcomed, is not desirable in a free society, or even considered constructive on occasions, so the Media will be encouraged “indirectly” to progress up, rather than down, the ‘Cultural’ mountain.
The Media owe it to our society, to be responsible for what they print, transmit or televise, as this mentally shapes our nation.
8) Religion
Although it may not be possible to assist all the Religions that are currently blossoming in England, positive action is planned to help the ‘bedrock’ English religions, which have been established here for centuries.
They are in decline and we hope to find ways to protect and support them. E.P.P. supports the traditional teachings of the Church and the need to maintain the status of heterosexual, monogamous marriage, which provides stability for the children in these relationships.
There is also a need to protect and preserve the Churches and our wonderful Architectural Heritage and Buildings that our forefathers left us.
